Every year since 1980, Groundhog Day has meant a little more in Alta. This year is no different. On Thursday, February 2nd the 2023 Curt & Adam Naisbitt Memorial Groundhog Day Race will take place for the 43rd time.
The event is hosted by Amazing Ski & Snow People, an Alta non-profit organization supporting the ski patrol community’s physical, social and mental health, education and infrastructure needs. The Groundhog Day Race has been integral in raising funds for the Adam Naisbitt Living Memorial.
This fascinating annual event is a whole-day affair, with serious competitors racing at breakneck speeds down the mountain while skiers in goofy costumes keep the party going simultaneously. If you’re interested in racing, sign up here. Registration is open until 7:30pm MST on January 31.
The day begins at 8 am for Bib pick-up and continues through noon at Sunnyside Race Arena for preliminary races. The pace really picks up for head-to-head elimination races from 1 to 4 pm. And then comes the best part–the Race Celebration at the Alf Engen Room right here at the Peruvian from 6-9 pm.
Anyone can join the Celebration in the Alf Engen Room for a $10 ticket that doubles as an Opportunity Drawing entry. Race Awards, Adam Naisbitt Living Memorial Report and the Opportunity Drawing all follow for a night of cheers with fellow skiers.
Get your tickets right here! We hope to see all of our guests and Alta loyalists there on February 2nd to have some fun and support an organization we hold close to our hearts.
