Many people dream of living in paradise, often picturing themselves with a drink in hand on a beach. But to us, that’s a different kind of paradise. That kind of happiness is made up of cold temps with lots of precipitation. And as many ski runs as we can get for about six straight months.
That’s what it’s like living where you work at the Alta Peruvian Lodge. From November to April, it’s nonstop action. So all our seasonal, live-in employees, from the maintenance crew to the kitchen staff, reside at the Peruvian in our dorm facilities.
Not only does the job offer a monthly salary, but it also provides housing, meals, and utilities, along with other sweet benefits. Everyone at the Peruvian receives a season pass to either Alta or Snowbird ski areas. That’s right, there are snowboarders among us. In addition to the free access to the best skiing conditions on earth, our team can take unlimited trips to our hot tubs, heated swimming pool and sauna for those less intense days off.
Living at Alta for the season is an experience unlike any other in the world. While Salt Lake City is only a half-hour drive out of Little Cottonwood Canyon, it feels like we’re out in the middle of nowhere with only the mountains and our closest friends to watch over us. And it’s exactly what we crave year after year, as a high percentage of our employees return for the next season.
It could be argued that our staff may sometimes have more fun than our guests on vacation. Because living in close quarters means relationships are tight knit. Because it doesn’t matter if we’re working over New Year’s Eve or celebrating the end of the season at a bowling alley, when you’re in Alta with your closest friends, you’re always living the high life.
